Secure Socket Layer (SSL)

A very common security protocol used for enhanced privacy and security. SSL allows for end point authentication of Internet transactions. SSL prevents hacking and eavesdropping, allowing for better customer security. Customers are typically advised to avoid inputting financial data or passwords into sites that do not follow the SSL protocol, which is evidenced by a small lock icon in the corner of a browser window.
