PayPal has become the clear leader for merchant processing, with a myriad of people owning and doing business with their accounts. While it has definitely become the de facto way to pay for a multitude of people, there is the chance that it may not be the best possible choice for people looking to open merchant accounts. Unfortunately, there isn’t just one reason for this. There have been a plethora of people who have experienced some problems with the online wallet.

Here, we’ll talk about some of the reasons why we don’t believe it may not be the absolute ideal choice for a prospective merchant account.

Unprofessional Airs

While this may not be a deal breaker, there are a number of people who believe that Paypal stinks of amateurism. One of the worst things as a merchant is coming off as someone who really doesn’t know what they’re doing. Of course, this may seem to be a bit of an opinion to many, but it’s something to consider as people become much more discerning.

The Shopping Cart

The shopping cart solution is also something to think about. As of current, the shopping cart redirects the user from your own site and opens up a new window. This isn’t a terrible thing, so as long as you don’t mind having your site hidden. While it definitely works well, it does break the immersion.

Fraudulent Accounts

While all of those things aren’t deal breakers, the fact that any given account could be flagged as a fraudulent account could most definitely be considered one. Unlike credit cards, you have no rights when it comes to PayPal. Unfortunately – in the event that something bad happens – you really have no recourse. Yes, this means that they can take your money and keep it, even if you think that you come up with a compelling reason why they shouldn’t. While this doesn’t happen often at all, it’s still something to consider.

All in all, PayPal is a great company that offers incredible solutions for their customers. However, this doesn’t mean that they are beyond criticism. They do offer something flexible and simple for their many customers, much unlike a good amount of their competition. All that considered, PayPal most definitely isn’t the best possible choice for a merchant account.
