There probably isn’t anyone who hasn’t been inside a business that was poorly organized. In fact, things were so bad that you had to wonder how they were even able to run their business and make a profit. The truth is that they probably didn’t, and this article will serve as a primer to keep your business out of the same situation.

1. Adopt an organized mindset. So many things in life just start by adopting a new mindset for what you want to accomplish. Once you do this, you will almost instantly see new ways to do things in a much more organized manner.

2. A place for everything. Unfortunately, at least in the case of most people, when they finally adopt a more organized mindset they begin the process of making change but the problem is where to start. Fortunately, the best place to start is exactly wherever you are. Start small. After all, many executives set out each morning to clean up their companies, but can’t seem to clean their garage. Likewise, if you have trouble deciding where to start organizing, start with your desk.

3. Leave no stone unturned. Many people have a terrible habit of keeping things on the surface organized, but allow that little area of their office (or minds) to be a cluttered mess. Unfortunately, cluttered messes grow like cancers. For this reason, you should make it your goal to make your entire office organized, and not just one part.

4. Getting your business organized extends not only to the physical properties of an office or store. It also encompasses the things we do each and every day. Did you ever wonder why you can’t seem to get the bookkeeping work off the top of your desk? It’s probably due to the fact that you don’t seem to make headway in getting the bookkeeping up to date. As a result, it sits there indefinitely. Get it done and get rid of it.

5. Enlist help. Another problem with getting organized is that when you try to do it yourself it seems to take forever. Instead, get someone else to help you. You will be surprised to see how fast things get organized and easier to work with.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. Once you start you will be surprised how fast things happen, and once you do you will be on your way to not only a better organized office, but one that runs better and more profitably too.
